Back from College
- Monday, 23 January 2012
I am back from college! I had a very busy but fun two weeks at Myerscough College. We were learning all about the anatomy, skeletal system and all kinds of in depth areas of the mammal (mainly dogs and cats) and how everything connects together in this crazy web of individual systems, muscles, bones, tendons, cells etc. I have never known so many cells before! - it's like the never ending story, but a great one!
Veterinary Dentistry
- Wednesday, 18 January 2012
We now have a qualified Veterinary Nurse at our Ripley surgery who has gained a Certificate in Veterinary Dentistry.
Looking after for your pets teeth is an important part of caring for your pets overall well being. Homecare is the most important aspect of your pets dental health, with daily brushing being the 'gold standard' of care. Prevention is always preferable to treatment and many oral and dental conditions are readily amenable to preventative measures.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of your pets dental health, or would simply like to know how to keep your pets teeth in the best condition possible, please call to make an appointment (01773 747801).
Ferret Vaccination
- Thursday, 12 January 2012
It has been noted by the Ferret Welfare Society that there appears to be an outbreak of distemper in ferrets, with cases being recorded in the Derby area.
Although there is no licensed distemper vaccination for ferrets we are able to use the canine vaccination 'off label'. Ferrets can be vaccinated from 12 weeks of age and require a single annual vaccination. If you would like to make an appointment please call any of our surgeries.
At our Ripley surgery, we have a ferret owning vet who has a particular interest in treating exotic pets - telephone 01773 747801.
College this weekend
- Friday, 06 January 2012
This weekend I will be going off to Myerscough College, in Preston, where I study for my Veterinary Nursing course. I hope we will be doing more practical tasks like learning to restrain different animals etc. Last block we got to work with horses at a local farm. They have only just introduced equine work this year so I'm sure it will be fun! I will let you all know what work I did and what we got up to when I return after 2 weeks. I may even let you know what my end of block test results are! I'll keep you posted.

My NPL number
- Friday, 16 December 2011
Today I got my NPL number which is related to my college work. My NPL number is my personal login information, this enables me to look at tasks which I need to complete here at the surgery for my training. At the moment it's things like reception work, booking appointments, answering phones, dispensing medication etc.. Plenty to read and get through but i'll get there!
Also today I was helping in surgery which is always great fun! We had a lot of operations on today so it was quite busy, but it makes the day go fast and I enjoy the different operations and animals that come in which makes it more enjoyable!
