Having an exotic pet is becoming more and more popular. However, it’s important to remember that the majority of lizards, snakes, spiders and birds aren’t native to the UK and they require specialist care to ensure that they are healthy and happy at all times.
At Ambivet we appreciate that all animals need to have first class care available to them, including the less usual ones. That is where our veterinary surgeon Yvette Rowntree BVSc CertAVP(ZM) MRCVS comes in.
If you have an exotic pet, you are recommended to visit our advanced practitioner Yvette, at our Ilkeston branch. As well as taking a strong personal interest in the health of exotic animals, Yvette regularly receives referrals from other veterinary practices.
Yvette has access to some of the most up-to-date technology and equipment available, and as a result is able to offer an extensive range of services and treatments.
If you are considering an exotic animal you must make sure you are up-to-date with the rules set by The Animal Welfare Act. According to the law you must provide the following basic needs (freedoms) for your pet:
- The freedom from hunger and thirst.
- The freedom from discomfort.
- The freedom to express natural behaviour.
- Freedom from fear and distress.
- Freedom from pain, injury and disease.
If you would like any more information about the freedoms above, or to book an appointment for your pet (exotic or otherwise), please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team. If you are a referring vet please fill out the form below.
